Question 1

What is Damascene craftsmanship?

Accepted Answer

Damascene craftsmanship is the traditional woodworking art of Damascus, Syria — known for hand carving, geometric marquetry and mother-of-pearl inlay. Artisans assemble hundreds of small pieces of wood and pearl into stars, lattices and floral patterns, entirely by hand.

Question 2

What makes mother-of-pearl inlay distinctive?

Accepted Answer

Mother-of-pearl is cut from natural shell, so every piece shimmers differently as it catches the light. Set into dark walnut by hand, it gives each object a depth and luminosity that printed or painted decoration cannot reproduce.

Question 3

What types of products does Groovy Gifts offer?

Accepted Answer

Our collections include Damascene wooden boxes, personalised clutches and hand mirrors, hospitality and homeware pieces, traditional game tables such as backgammon and the Beyzika, furniture and seating, mirrors, calligraphy wall décor, and a contemporary heritage line for modern interiors.

Question 4

Can I personalise a wooden gift?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many of our pieces can be personalised with names, initials, dates or short phrases in Arabic or English calligraphy, engraved or inlaid in mother-of-pearl. Send us your idea through the personalisation page and our team will confirm the details with you.

Question 5

How can I enquire about a handcrafted item?

Accepted Answer

Every product page has an enquiry button that opens a WhatsApp conversation with our team, pre-filled with the piece you are viewing. You can also reach us through the contact page or directly on WhatsApp at +971 55 532 7856.

Question 6

How should I care for mother-of-pearl pieces?

Accepted Answer

Keep pieces away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, dust with a soft dry cloth, and avoid chemical cleaners on inlaid surfaces. Treated gently, mother-of-pearl keeps its lustre for generations.

Question 7

Are different designs and sizes available?

Accepted Answer

Many designs can be made in different sizes and with different inlay patterns. Because every piece is handcrafted, variations and custom requests are part of how we work — just ask.
